'Are You Still There?'

A voicemail that was left by a now deceased loved one. Particularly a voicemail that you go back and listen to with fondness in their memory. 

If your voicemail is selected, it will be played in our art installation "Are You Still There?' at the 2026 Axis Mundi Burning Man in Black Rock City. 

With care, we invite those to hear one another's cherished heirlooms. Together we set out challenging the viewers & listeners to individually face questions about their own connection to eternity. 

We want you to handle your voicemail with the utmost care. Thankfully smart phone technology has made sharing these audio files fairly straightforward. 

So first we will ask you to make a screen recording while listening to the voicemail as an initial backup before you do anything else. 

The next thing you may do in an abundance of caution is to test out these steps on any meaningless voicemail in order to give yourself extra reassurance of the process. 

This step just creates a backup file saved in your camera roll. It is not required, only a suggestion. 

On iPhone 

1. Add the button: Go to Settings > Control Center. Scroll down and tap the + (green plus sign) next to Screen Recording.
2. Start recording: Swipe down from the top-right corner of your screen to open the Control Center. Tap the Record button (a circle inside a circle) and wait for the 3-second countdown.
3. Play Voicemail: While screen recording, go to your voicemails and with the speaker on, press play to listen to the voicemail all the way through. 
4. Stop recording: Tap the red status bar or red circle at the top-left of your screen, then tap Stop. Find your video in your Photos app.

On Android (Including Samsung)

1. Start recording: Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel. Tap the Screen Recorder icon.
2. Adjust settings: Choose whether to record audio - choose media. Tap Start.
3. Play Voicemail: While screen recording, go to your voicemails and with the speaker on, press play to listen to the voicemail all the way through. 
4. Stop recording: Swipe down from the top of the screen and tap Stop on the Screen Recorder notification. Your video will be saved automatically in your Photos or Gallery app.

1. Open voicemail on your phone

2. Select the voicemail you would like to submit

3. Tap the Share button 

[Iphone :  usually represented by a square with an arrow pointing upward]

[Android/Samsung : usually represented by the (:) button]

4. Email the voicemail as an audio file to yourself

5. Forward that email to: tellmeyour@bigfeelingscomposition.com 

with the following information: 

Your Name

City, State, Country

Yes or No - Will you attend Burning Man this year?

.. and any information you would like to share about the person who left you the voicemail. This is not obligatory - only tell us what you wish - whether it be who the person was, a story about them, what they meant to you, what you learned from them.. nothing or anything at all.
